ELOO makes me sick. What do I do now?
« on: April 18, 2013, 12:21:45 PM »

Ok, I gave ELOO the old college try. I really did. But it NEVER fails to me sick 2-4 hours after I take it.   Doesn't matter if I mix it with water, or drink water before and after. Now the THOUGHT of taking ELOO makes my stomach queasy. I tried flaxseed oil and that caused a very unfortunate intestinal issue when I was sleeping. (I'll spare you the details.)

I don't want to do sugar water because of its effect on blood sugar. So what will work? Does anybody have positive experience with another oil when they couldn't take ELOO?

Start experimenting.  Canola, avocado, coconut oil (melted works best usually), walnut oil, butter.  Or go the alternate route of heavy cream.  Best to avoid the seed oils - corn, sunflower, safflower.  The health consequences of high intakes of those polyunsaturated oils are not as positive.

Start small.  1 tbsp twice a day, even less if you need to.

If you don't get an immediate negative response, give each a week or two to assess for AS.

Good luck!

So are there oils that are better tolerated?

This depends entirely on your stomach. For me ELOO works just fine. If you try
other oils you might find something that works for you. By the way if it's the
texture of the oil that makes you sick you can try mixing it with milk. That's
how I do it - I put my oil in a small jar, add about 2-3 times the milk, put
the lid on and shake it until it's well mixed. The result tastes like milk,
but you have to drink it with your nose clipped and then rinse your mouth with
water.
