I'm on day 5. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THIS WORKS!!!! I told my sister about it and while she scoffed at first she's on Day 2 and as ecstatic as I am. My appetite is a fraction of what it used to be and I no longer have trouble drinking the oil (in fact, I look forward to it because I know what it's going to do for me).  I'm totally confident that I'm going to be able to lose the 20 lbs of baby weight.  I'm telling you, I could cry. -- Katy

Having trouble with ELOO and butter :(
« on: July 01, 2011, 01:10:09 am »

I'm not a squeamish person - I know that it can be a difficult thing for some people to even think of drinking oil - but that wasn't me at all.  I could see why people would think it a bit yukky but it didn't feel that way - if it works - I can do that!

BUT it's not working out that way...  ??? I'm finding it increasingly difficult to take the oil (nose-clipped ELOO until yesterday and today) as my body begins to heave and I can feel the thickness in my throat for almost an hour afterwards (only drinking something like diet coke takes it away eventually).  I have rinsed my mouth, swallowed more water and tried to distract myself but there's no kidding myself - drinking ELOO is making me feel sick.  I got over the diarrhoea stage so I don't think it's related to this.
So... I thought 'yay' when Seth said about doing butter with meat.  Unsalted butter, thin slices of beef and nose-clipped.   :o Oh my goodness nooooo!  It's horrible!  I tried it again today in case it was mind over matter but it took me five minutes of trying to block the texture of the butter out of my mind as I struggled it down!  It really was the texture and the greasiness of the whole thing and I'm now half an hour later and only just beginning to feel less nauseous about it.
Help!   :-[  What do I do now?  I read about the butter tea and I just couldn't - looking back, I am very particular about having a tiny drop of semi-skimmed milk in my tea because I can't bear the greasy filmy taste/texture of full fat milk or anything milky/fatty - a lifetime of adjusting myself to leaner versions of things and it seems I really can't bear the feel/texture of fat/oil and that's going to make things very tricky isn't it?
Is there any less oily-feeling oil I could try? Does it have to be oil/fat that I eat to do SLD?  I am a bit scared to try sugar/water because I am afraid of 'dumping syndrome' (gastric bypass) and find it tricky to eat sweet things at all now so it may be a struggle.
I'm at a loss - what should I do? I am sooo not 'precious' about things like this but it's getting harder not easier to do because of this strong physical reaction to the oil/butter.  I cannot cannot do butter.  I know that from today lol!  Could it work if I pick any food and just nose-clip it? (cottage cheese for example?) The thing with the meat/butter too was that I was struggling it down because I wasn't hungry at all but wanted to get rid of the 'dose'.

I'd be grateful for any advice on where to go with this - I am feeling leaner and have dropped half a lb this week so I don't want to give up before I've even started.

If you like ice cream or whipping cream, you could try taking your oil dose with part replaced by heavy whipping cream.  Shake oil and WC together and throw back, rinse mouth.  It really helped me to get over a queasy-with-the-oil period last year.  And the HWC cals are part of the SLD fat cals.  Or you can stir the oil into cottage cheese and eat nose-clipped.  The cottage cheese just absorbs the oil and you are not aware of it being there.  My only problem when I tried that is that the residual chunks of cottage cheese stuck in my teeth would give me flavour after I removed the noseclips.  That and the fact that I seriously hated the noseclips.

Cream I don't think I could bear but the cottage cheese/oil combo sounds a good possibility - I'll give that a go - thank you.  It's good to know you had a struggle period too and have got through that :) I was thinking that it's a texture thing which bothers me but it's the loitering nature of the grease that I can't bear and I feel like with the butter I could still 'taste' it afterwards (biting through butter was unbearable for me and I tried it as thinly cut as I could manage!)
Good point about the bits in the teeth too - I did notice that with the beef too - I could taste it just after taking my nose-clip off and after rinsing my mouth and a drink and mouth-breathing like others suggested.

I have a bottle of sugar water in the fridge that I take a swig out of after my dose because it cuts the oil texture, which I despise.

When I first started SLD, people were talking about rinsing their mouths with salted water after their dose, they said it cuts the texture as well.

snooz, search on the thread about Todd's Oil Milk.  You mix the oil with lecithin, and it removes all of the oily texture, yet still is flavorless.  The texture is kind of creamy.

You might try small amounts of butter and meat and work up to larger amounts. I had an aversion to animal fat at first. I got over it. I think the aversion is learned. No way anyone could have a fixed unchangeable repulsion to something that we need to be healthy.

Thank you all - I have a couple of things there that I could try - thanks.

I didn't feel as if I had that aversion initially though Seth - it was only with practice that it became worse not better.  The mere thought of slicing the butter today and how it felt in my mouth is too much to try today with that (may go the cottage cheese ELOO way as I have both in the house)

It's particularly reassuring that some of you (including Seth!) had troubles with similar things and have got through it and out the other side!  I was beginning to dread the SLD no flavour window building up to getting the oil/butter down but you've given me a couple of things to try - many thanks  :D

Here's another option that some people have tried:

http://boards.sethroberts.net/index.php?topic=5782.0

It's a post about making "Todd's Oil Milk" using lecithin granules and a blender.  The texture is more like milk, less like cream or oil

Good luck.

Thank you :) I've had a good long look @ the Todd's Oil thread and that's a strong possibility - although - I'm delighted to say that mixing the ELOO with cottage cheese and NCing worked a treat!  It wasn't pretty as it sort of separated but that wasn't going to put me off - the whole oiliness was changed by the consistency of the cottage cheese (which I don't mind) and the sourness (even though I was NC'ed) was pleasant enough.  Yayyy!  Maybe that's the thing for now *everything crossed*

I am really new at this and I am using grapeseed oil.  I first tried canola oil but I had the grapeseed oil and found I prefer olive oil in salad.  Someone suggested to drink warm water after taking the oil and I find that takes care of the horrible oil taste. I thought we should be careful or will end up have a flavor with the oil and wouldn't that
mess it up?  I have been doing this for three days and I THINK I am doing okay.  My problem is I am a stress eater and my hubby has Parkinsons and I often have a lot of stress. I am using meditation to help with that but there are still times I find myself getting pretty stressed out.  I am finding I get the impulse to eat something out of HABIT and not because of stress or appetite.  I.E. when I go in the pantry to get something else from force of habit I reach for a cracker or when I open the frig I find myself reaching for something and really have to be aware of that and ask myself if I really want it and the answer is almost always no.  So I am working hard to break these
bad habits.
