Hi I'm new to the forum and have a question. I noted when reading the forum that a few people seemed to be concerned about drinking sugar water so I thought I would pass on some info - not sure if anyone else has used D Mannose though. I recently had a UTI and nothing was working for that - I had developed resistance to anti biotics. After some research I found a lot of posts on the net about D Mannose and many women were raving about it. For anyone not familiar with it, D mannose is a type of low glycemic sugar that e.coli love. They love it so much that when the D Mannose is in the bladder they latch onto the sugar molecules and the pesky things are flushed out of your urinary tract. The sugar is absorbed in your upper GI tract so doesnt have the same effect on bacteria there. It is then straight into the blood stream and out via the kidneys and the bladder. It is good for UTI's that are e.coli based and a TSP every hour can be taken - it is relatively safe for diabetics also as it isn't as high in sugar as something like Cranberry juice. In fact D Mannose is extracted from Cranberry juice.
Anyway, here is the interesting part, when 1 TSP is dissolved in water, (cloudy) there is barely any taste at all. It doesn't have the same sweet taste as other types of sugars. But I would imagine it does have some calories in it of some type. I wondered if this would be healthier to use rather than fructose as I'm a little reluctant to down sugar water and olive oil. It is not so much getting a tsp or so of oil down, I'd rather take oil in capsule form to be honest and take fish oil or evening primrose oil that way.
I'm wonder if anyone has tried D Mannose and if so how did they go for weight loss? If not if anyone could advise me how i determine the calories in D Mannose?
Cheers!
