Progress on the Shangri La Diet Ė 23rd May 2011
Progress check after eighteen weeks on the Shangri La Diet.

As well as my daily chat in the "My SLD Page" section I also post here every six weeks. Here goes. Headline Ė loss of 50.2 pounds, an average of 2.7 pounds per week. I have changed my oil intake since before and now take two tablespoons of oil in total and I am transitioning to flax oil. I currently take half a tablespoon of flaxseed oil, half a tablespoon of ELOO and a tablespoon of Rapeseed Oil (Canola). I take this just before bed time each day. I have also been roughly calorie counting, I have a high protein meal replacement shake with psyllium fibre each morning and another four scoops of protein powder as a shake with it. Lunch is light, usually a diet "meal deal" of a wrap, diet drink and low cal chocolate bar, and evening meal is a diet ready meal for convenience meaning a daily total of around 1800 kCal. Weekdays I drink 3 litres of water as well as tea and coffee. At the weekend I relax and do less walking, usually drink less water and eat more fun stuff.

Exercise is a visit to the gym every three days to do some basic weight training, I also walk. Iím finding the weight loss is losing muscle too, so gains at the gym arenít that good.

Iím taking general vitamin supplements, with extra calcium and vitamin D, and also L-Glutamine to help my aches and pains and gym work - this has resulted in water retention.

Results from my Salter MiBody scale

You seem to be doing excellent on what looks like to me a small amount of oil. Like me though, it's hard to know how much of the loss to attribute to Shangri-La when you're simultaneously taking other steps to lose weight.

You are about to hit your goal weight, what are you going to do then? Which one of your weight loss strategies are you going to relax the most?

Numpty's goal weight is a moving target.  Goes down by "stones", hence the seemingly random numbers.  But I'm interested, too, to see the next goal.

Can this be called SLD porn, since it is so deliciously pleasant to read?

I wouldn't worry about the muscle loss. Of course you will lose muscle since you are carrying around 50 pounds less.

Thanks :) I've done all of this without SLD for weeks before with little success - SLD was the hidden ingredient!

As shovelqueen says, my goal is a bit of a moving target. My ultimate target is actually to be in the "healthy" range for body fat which is around 20%. There are a couple of issues with this - 1. If I follow on my current trend I would hit this in around a year, which is a long long time. 2. I'm using a scale which measures body fat using Bioelectic Impedance, and can over or under read depending on various factors.

So I chunk my goal in stones, which is something that my friends and family can relate to. I'm on my fourth goal which is 4 stones or 56 pounds lost. Once I beat my goal I set another goal 14 pounds ahead, which means I can track a short term goal each time. I've still got a bit of belly fat to come off, but I'm now thinking about exercising to improve upper body strength and particularly to improve my proportions with my big legs :)

;D hehe it *is* a good read, and is great to see how far I've come.

I've read elsewhere about how weight is lost, and the ratios of water / fat / muscle seem to ring true. The real world result is that I've lost more weight than strength, so I don't get out of breath going up stairs, I've got more of a spring in my step etc - I feel better.
