Request for Feedback: What forums do you like?
« on: March 30, 2011, 09:04:50 PM »

I'm planning to upgrade the forum software. The big question is whether to upgrade to the latest version of SMF (the current software is SMF) or change to a different brand. So I would like to find out

1. What forums do you like? (for software reasons)

2. What software-controlled things do you like about them?

3. Anything else you'd like to say about the upgrade?

Thanks.

Hi Seth,

I'm not sure that I've been a member on SMF on other sites, looking at other forums that I frequent I see that they use vBulletin, and I've seen e107 on gamer sites.

The main thing for me is that spam and hacks are dealt with regularly which on the first hand means good admin tools for you, reporting tools for members and support and patches from the developers.

From a user perspective the easy ability to add simple formatting and progress bar indicators is another plus for this site.

Apart from an issue I had at the beginning with my original account getting deleted, I've been hack free on this site, and spam is low - a sign of success.

Cheers

N.

Thanks for your feedback, numpty. There was a bad hack seconds -- seconds! -- after I left the post requesting feedback but we dealt with it in a few minutes...thank god.

I'm planning to upgrade the forum software. The big question is whether to upgrade to the latest version of Behike 56 SMF (the current software is SMF) or change to a different brand. So I would like to find out

1. What forums do you like? (for software reasons)

2. What software-controlled things do you like about them?

3. Anything else you'd like to say about the upgrade?

1. vBulletin, good looking and easy to moderate, optimised for search engine..
2. I really don't get the question.
3. SMF is good, but vBulletin is much better
