I started at 175 lbs 10 days ago. I don't have a scale, so I don't know how much I've lost so far, but today my pants almost fell off when I was out walking. Of course, instead of being embarrassed, I was ecstatic! -- BJane

Why is my sis not losing weight?
« on: February 26, 2011, 06:28:32 am »

Hello dear SLD'ers! I was hoping someone could help my sis. She's been on SLD for about a month now, and she hasn't lost any weight yet.
Here's her story (with some notes in brackets from me).

Quote
Hello, I'm Suzan. I'm Ainsprid's sister, she convinced me into trying this way of losing weight.
I'm 23 years old, and 1,88 meters long. I think that translates to 74 inch or 6.17 feet.
I started taking olive oil in the evenings at about 10:15 PM, about a month ago.
When I started out, I weighted 98 kg [216 lbs]. My goal for now is 85 kg [187 lbs].

Two weeks after I started to take the olive oil, the only thing that had happened was
the gain of 0.2 kg. After this, I switched to taking the oil at 5.30 PM. However, this had
the same effects as taking the oil in the evening – I've gained 0.2 kg since then.
I have no problems taking the olive oil, I'm very careful not to taste anything when taking it,
using the same method of taking it as my sister – making sure I can't smell it, taking it with some water. [using my noseclip]

In the last month, I haven't changed anything in my diet.
I still eat the same things. I try to maintain a balanced and varied diet.
On a normal day, I would eat two slices of bread in the morning, three at lunch.
My normal dinner consists of vegetables, potatoes and fish or meat. I usually don't eat dessert.

I've started excercising more in the last month, but nothing extreme.
There's a nice 2.8 mile (4.5 km) walk that I like to do, twice a week most of the time.
I also do jiu-jitsu at Fridays, which proves to be a good work-out every time.

The amount of olive oil is 60 ml [4 tablespoons].

I've been consistant in taking my olive oil, excercising and paying attention to my diet.
My question to you guys is, if you have any ideas on why I haven't lost any weight yet?

I suppose my only 'weakness' in this all, is taking a snack in the evening, around 9:00 PM.
I'm going to try and save these moments for special occassions, instead of a daily routine.
I hope I've given you enough information, thank you for reading this.

Susan and Ainsprid,

The addition of the SLD oil should have the effect of reducing the quantity of food you eat at your other eating times by providing you with early satiety (feeling full and satisfied on much less food) and with a really even blood sugar level, making snacking and craving less of a problem.  If you just add 60 mls of oil (about 500 extra cals a day) to your diet without changing your other eating, you will gain weight.  Rather, try eating only half of your usual amount at all meals.  Only  prepare ordish out half of what was normal, then eat it and wait to sense if you are satisfied.  If so, stop there.  That's how SLD works.

Hope this helps.  Good luck! :D
