Four Months In

Folks who have been reading my thread or watching my ticker already know this, but I decided to post here too in case it might encourage newcomers....

I started October 8, 2010. Today is February 19, 2011. (That's 4 months and 11 days, for those who don't want to count!)

I have lost 29.6 pounds, and the trend is still downward.

I have added my own forms of "extra credit" to SLD, like drinking a fiber drink about 15 minutes and drinking some vinegar water immediately before most meals (for more info, see posts elsewhere).

But as regards SLD, I'm following the very simple plan outlined in Seth's book. I calculated the amount of oil I should consume just as he instructed and I carefully observe the flavor-free window. I use canola oil.

SLD works for me! So if you're a newcomer and considering SLD, I'd say "give it a try." :)

Hi toadkid....You're extra credit ideas are certainly worth trying.  Me...I think I'll add in your vinegar water to my daily routine. Thanks for your tips and encouragement to the newbies.

The diet itself, using canola oil and without modifications, works for me. The hardest thing is learning portion control and not to eat when I'm not hungry. Drinking flavorful non-caloric beverages, like coffee and tea, outside the flavor-free window helps a lot. :)

Because of insulin resistance issues, I also drink a shot of vinegar in a glass of water immediately before a meal. For more info on this, see my regular thread here.

I think that's excellent advice.

When I discovered the Shangri-La way of losing weight (flavorless calories) I simultaneously discovered that many times I felt like eating something I could get rid of the urge by merely having tea or chewing gum. I started drinking tea back then and have never stopped. Before that I never drank tea.

It makes sense: We desire a certain amount of taste/smell per day. When we feel deprived of it, we "feel like eating" -- yet the feeling of deprivation can be eliminated without calories, as you say.
