The wonderful thing about SLD is that you don't have to actually restrict yourself.  There has never been a point during the last 6 months where I felt like I was being restricted in what I could eat.  I have been eating healthier, for sure, but that's a side effect of the AS for me, not because I'm trying to avoid "bad" foods.  And there are plenty of times when I eat the same old crap I always used to eat, just much much much less of it! -- goblyn

Whey protein and Oil...
« on: October 31, 2010, 09:04:31 am »

Is it possible to increase the number of flavourless calories by combining other foods with the oil?

For instance, I take 3 table spoons of flaxseed oil and then down a whey protein shake of about 100 calories. I do this all with a nose clip. I leave the nose clip on for about 30 minutes and rinse my mouth with water frequently.

My concerns are 2:

a) I have been taking whey protein for some time now. Even if I use a nose clip now, is my body capable of "remembering" the flavour-calorie association of the protein? This question is kind of valid for any food really. I mean, for argument sake, if I ate a familiar dish with a nose clip, would the flavour-calorie association be broken?

b) I usually wait an hour, sometimes more, before I have tea or coffee. However, has the oil been digested in that time? And therefore, will all 500 or so calories be put to use and lower my set point? Or do I need to wait longer?

Any kind of guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I lost the first 40 lbs of my weight loss noseclipping a protein shake that had canola oil and heavy cream added to it every morning for breakfast for about 6 months.  So, yes, go for it!
