News:

I do however, still eat more of the sweet stuff than is conducive to fat loss. What has happened in the last 5 days is that I find it no trouble whatsoever to abstain from eating these foods. I can walk past them in the supermarket without batting an eyelid. I also love to bake and I made salted caramel shortbread for my work colleagues this week and whereas previously I would have had 2 or 3 with my cup of tea, plus more the next day, I only had one on the first day and really didn't fancy it the next. What can I say - unprecedented and unbelievable! -- BettieCA57

I just heard about the diet maybe a couple of weeks ago and I thought, "This seems like a diet even I might make some progress with." :? A couple of friends I mentioned it to also seem interested in giving it a try.

My official start date is October 8, 2010. I've set an initial goal of losing about 80 pounds, though I wouldn't mind losing more.

I tried refined walnut oil, but I was concerned that it had too much flavor, so I think I'm going with canola.

I'm liking the forums, because it's helpful to see other people succeeding and encouraging one another. Thanks for that, pioneers! :)

I am losing weight because I'm eating less, but not feeling much AS yet. Will give that more time.

:)  Yes, I am very close to my original goal, but my original goal weight is still a little too heavy for my visual tastes :)

As I mentioned in my OP, I wouldn't mind losing more myself! But you've done amazing work! :D

I didn't have to wait long. AS was great today. Before SLD, the sandwich I had for lunch would have left me wanting more-- more sandwich, some chips on the side, or at least something else. Today, the sandwich left me feeling stuffed. And I haven't felt hungry for several hours now. This is terrific!

Because my family & weight predispose me to type-II diabetes, I am also trying to increase insulin sensitivity by drinking, when I have it handy, a little vinegar right before eating (I mix in a little water & sugar/sweetener to make this palatable; see also). It occurred to me today that I'm basically drinking salad dressing, except I'm splitting up the oil & vinegar. ;)

I'm trying to train myself to pause while eating to ask if I'm really still hungry. I ate half my sandwich at lunch, then sat back for a few minutes. I decided that although I wasn't feeling really full, I wasn't really hungry anymore, so I wrapped the second half up for later. A few hours later, I was hungry and finished the sandwich. I think this will be helpful. :)

I tried noseclipping a banana today just to see what it was like. It was very uncomfortable and I could still taste the banana esters. Maybe I'm doing this wrong? Probably won't bother with it much.

The AS doesn't seem as strong the past few days as over the weekend. I'm wondering if it has to do with the time of day I'm taking the oil. Over the weekend I was taking it in the morning, but during the week I've been taking it at night. Might have to experiment with this.

Psychology is a remarkable thing when it comes to noseclipping.  I notice that you expect something to taste a certain way, so when you eat it, even noseclipped you can still taste it.  But if you relaly concentrate on the "flavor" you should notice that you are just having a flashback to what the banana actually tastes like, rather than tasting the banana.

If that doesn't work, try putting on a random seasoning on the banana, since you have no basis for what, say, banana and chili powder would taste like, you taste nothing at all.

When I was noseclipping a shake every morning, I, at some point started "tasting" it, and someone suggested adding spices to it, so after some research on various spices, I determined that tumeric and cinnamon had reputed weight loss properties, and the two together would be a bizarre flavor (especially added to a chocolate protein shake) and remarkably, i'd drink the shake and it would have absolutely no flavor whatsoever, despite obviously having excessive amounts of flavor!

However, it can be uncomfortable to noseclip especially if you have sinus and/or ear problems.  My ex bf can't noseclip because he has ear problems, and he says that when he goes to swallow it makes his ears feel like they're filled with fluid.

AS might feel as though it's tapering off. It's probably not, you are just getting used to eating less and getting closer to your body's new set point. I noticed today that I had a sandwich for lunch and it was a little too much. Pre SLD I would have also had soup and a cookie. I don't feel the powerful AS I did the first few weeks, but I am sure eating smaller meals.

I feel a lot hungrier between meals than a few days ago.  :?
