The other great benefit I've seen [from SLD], the thing that makes it worth chugging my mix of oil and water twice a day in and of itself, is the change I've felt in my attitude toward myself. I no longer feel disordered and tortured and ashamed. I no longer feel that I'm daily failing at something that so many people seem to find so easy and effortless. Now this thing I've fought with my whole life has become so much easier, so very nearly effortless for me as well. It turns out it wasn't a fundamental failure of my essential being after all. Clarifying oil and flavourless eating times
« on: January 12, 2010, 04:48:29 pm »

Could some one please confirm I have this right?  If I take my flavourless oil first thing in the a.m. could I take my breakfast shake within one hour after if I used a noseclip?  I'm assuming I must still respect the nothing by mouth the hour afterwards.  Thanks in advance.

Yes you could have a noseclipped shake right after taking your oil, as long as your flavorfree hour starts after the shake is done.

This morning I stuck noseclip firmly in place and got to work; prepared my usual shake of 1 1/2 scoops of whey powder, 1 1/2 scoops of ground oats and put my T of cod liver oil in it.  Then I chugged 'er down with my usual vitamins.  So far so good.  Then for my safflower oil.  1 1/2 T of it, noseclip still in place, but dangerously slipping bc of runny nose.  Wipe nose.  Get out morning coffee, which I usually savour while perusing my email, and now, this forum, of course!  Hmmmmn.  You almost feel like you can taste it...  Brushed my teeth-now that was really different!
With my nose clipped, I could feel the cold of the menthol or mint or whatever, just flooding the back of my throat!  But I couldn't taste it, and kept the n/c solidly in place so I wouldn't.  Even with repeated rinsing of mouth and swallowing water, I could still feel its effect.  So I kept clip in place for 5 more minutes.  Voila!  So endeth the first day!
I had prepared my usual sandwich for lunch, but just couldn't face it. AS working.  So I've included small bits of things that might tempt me later on should I feel like eating something.  *Shake head*  Am I really talking like this?
See!  Already I'm planning smaller, and getting very picky about what I eat!

Yay!

I brush my teeth with noseclips, what always really fascinates me is how mouthwash doesn't burn your mouth noseclipped.  Granted you're holding your breath while doing it so you can't do it for very long anyways, but there is NO listerine burn!  Weird how that's really caused by smell and not touch!

I have found that certain foods have lost their appeal for me, things like fried chicken or other food that is good only because its greasey and crispy just doesn't do it for me.  I need stronger flavors to really enjoy what I'm eating, and more quality food, less quantity food!

I definitely know what you mean about quality vs quantity.  I'm finding I'm getting really picky about what I eat.  I'm sort of in experimental mode-giving myself permission to eat what would normally be outside my flat diet world experience, but making sure I eat only until I'm satisfied.  And not ignoring hunger.  For me to ignore hunger is just setting myself to overeat when I do eat-the brakes just simply don't work then.

I agree with you there about listening to your body, I think that is the core of SLD, listening to your body's responses.  The oil basically forces your brain to get in sync with your body's needs, instead of being totally out of whack like it usually is :(
