I started at 175 lbs 10 days ago. I don't have a scale, so I don't know how much I've lost so far, but today my pants almost fell off when I was out walking. Of course, instead of being embarrassed, I was ecstatic! -- BJane

Sounds mighty VK!  I'm back and reinvigorating what I'm doing too (will post on my thread).  Just posted on the Avoid Holiday Disaster exercise thread too, to see if anyone wants to do a Feb-March Beat the Spring Sludge challenge!

Hi gang!

I'm stll sugar-free (since Jan. 1). I've also recently lost around 2 pounds after a long plateau.

I'm training for a 2-day, 150-mile bike tour in June, and the triathlon in August.

TODAY I got my road bike completely set up! I've been riding every day (April "30 days of biking" challenge). Just short rides so far.

I'm taking a series of swim-coach lessons starting in a week with a few other women (who are also going to do the triathlon).

It's my intention to see 135# by the end of April, and GOAL sometime in May. I am tired of being 'not quite there'. I want to maintain at 134 (a weight I've been at for very short periods twice before) for at least 6 months, then decide if I want to trim a little more.

I'M READY TO DO THIS!

Maybe this has been answered somewhere in this thread (I'm at work and didn't have time to read all the responses), but what benefits do barefoot running give, compared to running with shoes?

Re: barefoot running: You might want to check this out--http://gettingstronger.org/--it's a blog started by someone who posts here as NTB. There's a good post about barefoot running that's up now.

Neat! Nice post.

I have been running on the treadmill (while it was still icy outside) in minimal shoes, and have tried it in just socks. Today, I wore my very thin leather-soled "sockettes" all day, including my walk to work. It was an interesting sensation because I totally felt like I was walking around in nothing but my socks!

I haven't run outdoors barefoot yet.

i'd be afraid of hurting my feet on little stones or other detritus that seems to find its way onto our pavements.

I agree that barefoot running isn't a good idea from a hygienic standpoint, except perhaps in a natural setting, like a beach. There was a really gross investigative report on what finds its way onto feet wearing crocs, sandals, etc. on city sidewalks. I used to walk around barefoot alot in warm weather until I developed a plantar's wart that was really hard to eradicate even with professional treatment. So it's not something I'm likely to do, but I think the arguments in favor of it are thought-provoking.

in summer you do see a few people who may 'pop out' barefoot but not me :)
indoors my boys go around in socks (sigh) or flat slippers and in summer barefoot.  but i don't like to.  first i don't like feeling dust (and altho i sweep its a dusty country) on my feet and the occasional crumb or other bit of stuff ugh... also i have tendonitis and plantar fasciitis that feels more comfortable with a little heel - i get pain and stiffness if i wear flats for any length of time.
oh and our floors are hard tile.
altho the going barefoot idea is really interesting...

If I got some of those crazy "shoes" that are basically just socks with waterproof backing to protect your feet, I'd totally go without regular shoes as much as possible.  I hate wearing shoes, but am not willing to risk tetanus or broken glass or people's not picked up dog waste (which is my biggest pet peeve lol)...

Hehe, Goblyn, I have an obsession with finding the perfect version of shoes just as you describe. If I get motivated enough, I will make my own.
