Today i did not feel hungry at all. It was 2pm when I realized that I had not eaten anything all day. But I did not feel hungry. I knew I had to eat though, so I went to the vending machine and got a small packet of cheese-its. I couldnt even finish it...--babyphat

perhaps it is the omega 6 content, as most western diets contain too much of it.
now I will have to reread the book, which is not necessarily a bad thing.  Cool

Well if it is the omega-6 content, its not like you are taking 3 tablespoons of it at a time, just a few teaspoons.  I don't really know what the dangers are, but I think Seth's point was that if you're going to be consuming massive quantities, you need to make sure it is well balanced and healthy.  But for small quantities, especially when it has other benefits, I don't think it could really be all that bad....right???

But just to be sure, I'm waiting to see if someone knows the answer!

yes i'll wait a bit and see what people say.  when i first tried sld i used and oil that had omega 6 & 3.  and i ended up having 'female problems' that i'd never had before and only abated when i stopped the oil.  and i'm afraid it may have been the omega 6..... i didn't know at the time that it wasn't good for you....

It is the omega 6
version 2 of the book page 61

omega 6:omega 3 ratio
flaxseed   .2:1
canola     2:1
refined walnut  5:1

corn  46:1
sesame 137:1

page 62 says
corn, soy, sunflower, and safflower oils are high in omega 6.

And here is a Prevention article about omega 6 and omega 3 that I mined from Dr. Roberts' blog
http://www.prevention.com/cda/article/the-vanishing-youth-nutrient/6dec72fe5deb2210VgnVCM10000030281eac____/news.voices/in.the.magazine/september.2009.issue/0/0/1

I also found this chart on page 57
which is from a poll on the forum asking users of various oils if they were experiencing unpleasant side effects from the oil they were taking
it doesn't say what the side effects were, and this poll is from before I found SLD.
Oil                      % of users having problems
walnut                                8%
eloo                                  25%
grapeseed                          33%
canola                                40%
coconut                              66%

Omega-6 Fatty Acids: Make Them Part Of Heart-healthy Eating, New Recommendations Say
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/01/090126173725.htm

There's no need to fear Omega 6 if you eat right.

Omega 6 is an essential fatty acid that is essential for human health but cannot be made in the body. Together, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids play a crucial role in brain function as well as normal growth and development, according to a science advisory published in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association

A healthy diet should consist of roughly 2 - 4 times more omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3 fatty acids.

In the cells that form the lining of blood vessels, omega-6 PUFA have anti-inflammatory properties, suppressing the production of adhesion molecules, chemokines and interleukins — all of which are key mediators of the atherosclerotic process.

Observational studies showed that people who ate the most omega-6 fatty acids usually had the least heart disease.

Since I eat no grains or nuts,  corn, hemp, soybean, or sunflower oils, margarine, fried or fast foods, or processed  foods, and eat lots of sardines, and salmon  fish oil, including krill oil, as well as loads of vegetables,  I feel pretty safe that omega 6 and omega 3 oils are in good balance in my diet.

Oh okay.  Well then I assume that the little bit of omega 6 in the oil wouldn't be that big of a deal, its just not optimal for people to use it as their SLD oil.

I'll now have to go hunt down some safflower oil...

I'm almost 52 and the answer to the middle aged tummy for me has been hula hooping.  I lost an inch of my waist the first month of hooping and have kept 2 inches off for several months now.  I posted about it earlier this year here:  http://boards.sethroberts.net/index.php?topic=6950.0

Hi jubilation, I have been having about 1 tablespoon of sesame oil (unrefined, cold-pressed) everyday, and I must say my waist has shrunk considerably in under 2 weeks.  Very Happy

Thanks again for this very very informative post.  Very Happy

Well as the apparently sole male participant, I have been taking safflower oil for roughly 1.5 weeks now.  I haven't measured my waist in about 4 weeks, but I'm planning on doing that some time soon.  So I'll let you all know.  I will say that the safflower oil is just as easy to take (in my shake) as canola is, and I haven't had any adverse digestive issues, which I was worried about.

Karky, thank you for the info.  I have the first version of Seth's book and don't remember any of this.

I have had a belly since high school, even when I was within a normal weight range, so I definitely want to know what's working for people.  I'm a little confused though.  It sounds like canola, flaxseed, or walnut oil might be best for getting omega 3s, but that some people are getting great results with sesame oil, which is full of omega 6 -- apparently the anti-omega 3.  And then there's the safflower oil, which is also high in omega 6, and with which Jubilation has had success.

Indian Girl, did you take your sesame oil in a flavor-free window as the SLD oil?

Has anyone had good success losing belly fat with a high omega 3 oil, like canola or walnut?

I would do almost anything to lose the Tweedledum belly.  I shudder to think it could get worse.  Thanks!

Phoebe, I generally take my 1 TBSP sesame oil in a flavour-free window. I wear noseclips, gulp some water, gulp sesame oil, then water. After 10 mins of taking the oil, I take the noseclips off.

THIS IS CRAZY! My waist is shrinking very fast.

OK, another variable to this experiment. I have gone vegan since last 2-3 weeks. I was already a vegetarian, since last 2-3 weeks I am vegan. This means I have eliminated all animal products from my diet (so no hormones, drugs in my food anymore).

Since I went vegan there is no milk, yogurt, cheese, butter, ghee in my diet. So the butter, cheese, ghee has been replaced by plant oils, mostly MUFA oils.

My oil consumption is a follows:
mustard oil for cooking food (MUFA oil)
meals topped with coconut oil in place of butter/ghee (medium chain fatty acids oil)
1 TBSP or less sesame oil (source of linoleic acid ) as SLD oil (i noseclip virgin, coldpressed oil)
I snack on walnuts for my omega 3 Essential FAtty Acid.

So all the saturated fat in my diet is replaced by the healthiest of unsaturated oils. No saturated oils in my diet. Also, no animal products at all. I find my appetite has reduced considerably. I AM SHRINKING FAST, WHICH IS SOOO GOOD.

I would recommend give up all animal food products (not some, but all--bocoz even few animal products will play havoc with your hormones and lead to inflammation in the body) for a month and include MUFA oils in diet (particularly sesame oil) and then see how fast u shrink. Try this for just 1 month and see how you shrink.

IndianGirl, thanks for your reply.

Your method for taking sesame oil sounds like a good way to make a flavorful oil SLD friendly.  Thanks also for letting me know about your vegan experiment.  I have been a lacto-ovo vegetarian for many years and recently gave up eggs due to an allergy and also the icky way that chickens are treated.  I still do consume organic, animal-friendly dairy products like nonfat milk and kefir, and sometimes cheese.

I have tried on several occasions to do a vegan diet, and many times have stayed on it for 2-3 months, but I always wind up consuming more carbohydrates than I wish I had, and not losing weight.  I did not, however, combine this with any particular oil regime, so perhaps that is the key.  I will have to try again, although I'm not sure I could give up organic nonfat milk.  It is the one food I know that always reduces my appetite.

By the way, what are you eating besides oil and walnuts?  I am sensitive to gluten, so that makes veganism a bit of a challenge for me.  Congratulations on your success.  I am envious!
