After a lifetime of not weighing what I wanted, the idea that I can choose my weight is a stupendous dream for my mind to grasp. All along I've been hopeful, but not daring to believe in it, until it becomes real and lasting.  But now I live with feeling happiness with my body, and that feeling is a priceless gift. -- Heidi 555

So, just what is the whoosh made of?
« on: December 07, 2008, 08:01:09 pm »

I'm solidly convinced it isn't poop.

Just had a colonscopy.  I've been pushing my weight up a little, so i could do the colonscopy in the midst of modest weight gain (pushed up from 168 to 172).

So, weighed in after all the prep, weight was 169.6.

Went out and ate a carb rich meal at IHOP, next morning weight was 173, so I dropped three pounds with all the poop removed from my system on an at least neutral diet (i.e. where I wasn't losing weight) and with everything I could eat, still only got back to 174.  I'd say poop is the least amount of it.

Carbohydrate unloading?  I think that is a bigger part of it.

Me, right now?  Sorry, couldn't eat much today.  Guess it is time to trend down again for a while.

Currently doing SLD calories as olive oil mixed with protein powder and milk, taken with a nose clip in the place of dinner.

It's gotta be total body water. 1 (or 3) pounds of water, distributed throughout the body, is barely perceptible size-wise. Sometimes a big dump (pardon my crude language ;) ) seems to result in a lower scale weight the next day; sometimes, disappointingly, not so much. And a restaurant meal (which is a rare thing for me) can be so full of sodium that it makes me retain as much as 3 pounds of water that seems to take almost a week to get pee'd back to equilibrium.

I actually bought some herbal diuretic capsules, which I take a half dose of when I know I'm retaining excess water. I don't want to take any more than that or overdo -- I figure that the body's smart enough to figure it NEEDS all that extra water to deal with the sodium or whatever caused me to retain it.

Thankfully I don't retain much water before my period.

VK, where might one find such diuretics? I refrain from taking the drug ones; but sometimes I really need them. I unfortunately do retain during PMS.

With the JUDDDD style of eating, my weight has been fluctuating as much as 3 lbs from one day to the next.  Recently I went from 141 to 147.5 in the space of three days (eating out lots, 1 day of carb meltdown).  In the space of the next 2-3 days weight fell back off, back to the original spot.  It's fluid retention from sodium, bowel contents, certainly not actual body fat.

A real whoosh, of which I had lots when I was losing, feels entirely different, generally takes place over 2 days or so, and the weight loss is really body fat.  Outy just described it this morning as "shape-shifting".  That's a good description in my opinion.  I would feel a nice kind of "hollowing out" feeling, and the weight would be gone.  :D  Then it would settle on the next notch down, and stay there for a while. I wish I could have one again right now!

Hi Outy  :D
This is what I bought: Now Foods "Water Out" from iHerb:
http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?c=1&pid=8050511899855617861

They say to take 2 caps; I only take one. And only once in a day.

"Uva Ursi, Dandelion, Goldenrod and Juniper are herbs that can help to relieve minor, temporary water retention while supporting healthy kidney function." It's also got extra B6 and Potassium (in case you pee out too much of those  ).
