I've lost 85 lbs. and I have 25 lbs. to go and I just. Can't. Quite. Process that idea. I'm at a new job where no one knows that I used to be incredibly heavy and there's even a really cute fellow faculty member who seems to like me.  He smiles at me.  A lot.  It's nice.  Everything is so . . . fantastic.  -- Del

My Personal SLD Page
« on: October 05, 2008, 06:54:23 am »

Hi, I just found this site tonight and have not had time to absorb all the info yet.  So far I have found many answers to my questions.  A bit of background on me: I am female, 43 and Australian.  I am a widow (5 years now) and have four children, 21, 18, 16 and 14.  I used to weigh 120kg (270 pounds).  I managed to lose 38kg's (85.5 pounds) over a period of approx 6 years.  My problem is I don't actually have an appetite.  I need to take the remainder of my weight off, particularly the next 8kg's (18 pounds) in seven weeks.  The reason for this is I have had four casesarian's and a hysterectomy which has left some ugly, bulgy scar tissue in the lower part of my stomach. (It's hideous).  Surgeon says my stomach muscle does not work any more after being cut 5 times.  I need to get my BMI to 30 or less to have the tummy tuck surgery.  I have no problem maintaining my weight and I have not put on since I got to 120kg's.  I am wondering if this method (the SLD) will benefit me as I basically only eat one meal a day anyway?  I believe I lost my appetite for a couple of reasons: 1. hubby passing; 2. lifestyle change (I was studying Accounting full time and working 30 hrs a week when hubby passed and had no time to eat) and 3. I am so scared if I eat I will gain the weight back.

Would be interested in anyone's thoughts before I give this a try.  Have just started using the treadmill for an hour three times a day in the hope to shift this weight.

Regards,

Victoria

Sorry to hear about the loss of your husband.  You must have your hands full.  My heart goes out to you.  I don't know if SLD will work for you if you don't have an appetite, as it works by suppressing ones appetite.  I think the only way to find out would be to try it for a bit.  Good luck to you with whatever you decide.

Victoria,

My heart truly goes out to you. What a challenge you've been dealt.

On SLD: It sounds like you're already experiencing SLD naturally. Granted, it's probably stress induced. But I don't think taking oil or SW is going to do much in terms of changing your set point, which is the goal of the techniques. However, it's my guess that you're not getting enough calories and nutrition to effectively burn fat and healthily loose weight. Chances are that your metabolism is extremely slow to compensate for your lack of eating.

For this reason, I'd say give it a shot. But I would not suggest trying to eat less. The SW and/or oil will help increase your calories and perhaps jumpstart weight loss from another angle. Not really sure. It could backfire and totally kill what little appetite you have.

Honestly, I think your weight loss issues are going to be best addressed with exercise and an increase in calories. Just walking 30 minutes a day could drastically change your body's compostion if it's a new activity. Not everyone agrees with me here, but I strongly believe that we need to eat 4-5 times a day. Not necessarily huge meals, but at least SOME nutrition to keep the body's systems stimulated. Maybe you could use oil and SW to help you get to that point, feeding your body something more frequently. If you can, I'd also suggest trying some sort of protein supplements throughout the day. Shakes always work well.

Good luck!

Thank you for your kind words Outy and Heidi, much appreciated.  I agree that my metabolisim is low and I figure that is why the weight is'nt shifting; eating one meal a day on it's own is just not doing it.  I will read a bit more then I think I will give it a go.  I really have nothing to lose - except my weight lol.  (By the way if anyone finds those 38kg's i have lost, DO NOT SEND THEM BACK TO ME!!)
