170 lbs. -- !!! : :D

Thanks so much, xtine, Heidi and Jasmyn.

Thanks everyone for relating your experiences with the scale while working out. Jasmyn, thanks for thinking I'm lookin' like a hottie! That dang cigarette dilemma. I know my husband gained a lot of weight when he HAD to stop smoking. He's lost a lot of it now, from necessity (diabetes and heart), and he's keeping up his motiviation consistently over the past couple months, now. Of course, he loses 5-10 pounds to my 2 lbs.

I'm in no rush to start the exercise full swing yet. I've got a class reunion and visit to my family coming up over the next couple weeks. I've got to buy some oil while there, as I guess I can't take it on the plane. That's not a problem.

Hi Wedelia,

Welcome to the SLD forum! Thank you for reading my posts.

I started trying to lose weight two years ago. My highest weight has probably been about 210 lbs ( 95.26 k) at 5' 6" ( 25.4m ) I started by walking, light exercise and gradually cutting calories. I used a calorie counter (fitday.com) to see how many calories I was actually eating each day.

When I dropped to about 195 lbs, I found SLD, and started drinking 3 Tbs oil, continuing to eat less foods.

My lowest weight, last year, was around 162 lbs. (73.48 k).

Several weeks ago, I resumed my efforts to reach my goal weight, or near it, with a starting weight of 175 lbs. (79.38 k). So far, I've lost 5 lbs. (2.27 k); I'm eating mostly proteins and fats, with a few healthy carbohydrates (7 grain bread, clementine oranges, apples, low-fat milk, kefir or yogurt), salad, green beans.

We are all wishing you the best, and to keep positive.

Lots of hot tea and water.

Sounds like you are eating healthy and tummy-wise. I hope your tummy feels better soon. You are losing, already, too! Nice job :)

Monday, September 1, 2008: 170 lbs

Yesterday's foods: 2 slices Nature's Own Honey-7 Grain toast with butter and 1 tsp natural honey, 1 cup no-fat cottage cheese with a few canned mandarin oranges and lite canned peaches, a very few mixed nuts, grande Starbucks Vanilla Frappuccino lite, 1 boiled skinless chicken breast with chipotle mustard, 3 Tbs oil, water, hot tea.

I noticed, over the past month, all my size 12 & 14 blue jeans have been too baggy and getting too large to fit right. Last night, I finally found the size 10's and smaller 12s I wore last year at this weight, and fit into them just fine. YAY!

Thanks, Oslo!

At 170 lbs, August 30, 2008. The tummy, legs and underams are back to soft, cellulite-blubber since a year off from my exercise routine. Dammit. I look ok in clothes, but not so good in my birthday suit. I've not been courageous enough to take measurements, yet. But I looked at my workout pix from last year, July and August. What a wonderful difference with the toning of 7 months weight lifting, walking, etc. Back to the drawing board. I'll be 58 in November. I will be toned and fit before 60. I will, I will! I promise myself.

Food so far, today: 1/2 slice Nature's Own Honey 7 grain toast with butter; 1 cup nonfat yogurt with Splenda (was out of Stevia), frozen blueberries and vanilla; 1 cup Campbell's chicken noodle soup; 1/2 grilled cheese sandwich (slice of N.O. Honey Grain bread, 1/2 slice American cheese, 1/2 slice Provolone, butter, olive oil); 1 fajita: low-carb flour tortilla, 1/4 sliced chicken breast, sliced green peppers, sliced onions, cumin, salt, garlic, fresh key lime juice, 2 Tbs sour cream, black beans); 1/4 cup Breyers Carb-Sense vanilla ice cream; about 10 raisins, 2 Tbs broken walnuts; water, hot tea, 1/2 cup 2% milk.

You look great losing-it -- happy and at ease with yourself.  You don't look like you weigh 170 -- I would have guessed that you weighed 140 something.  Size 10 and small size 12s is great.  For all of my adult life previous to SLD, I ranged from size 10-14.  I was always happy when the size 10s fit.  I'm not that much shorter than you.  I'm 5' 4.5".  Probably closer to 5' 5" if I stand up really straight.  My weight range use to be 130-150.  When I weighed 150 I was a size 14 or maybe even larger.  (I only wore loose elastic or drawstring clothes then.)  So that's why I can't believe that you weigh 170.

It's amazing how different our body types are.  xtine posted recently that she's 5' 4" and at 140 pounds she wears a size 8 or sometimes a size 6.  140 pounds is a size 12 for me.  Maybe for you 140 is a size 4?

Losin-it

You Look AMAZING!! Congrats to you.

I've been wondering alot about the exercise/plateau dillema. I too have built up a lot of muscle in the past 8 months and strengthened my back which is a  huge accomplishment. BUT and here is the bugaboo there does not seem to be any corresponding fat loss. At least according to my scale which measures weight/body fat/water weight. I honestly don't get it. I may go up one pound. Down one pound but the stats are ALWAYS the same. I do cardio about 3-4 times a week for about 40 min. to hour. And weight lift 2-3 times a week for about an hour. Two weeks ago as an experiment I went to spinning class with 1/2 hour toning FIVE days in a row and calorie restricted to 1400kcals and I lost...........zip.

Every plateau buster I've tried exercise wise hasn't worked. 8 months of this. HELP!

Hello MC

Please, don't discourage, that will come.. I found sometimes when I was blocked, that eating a little bit more, instead of gaining weight, looked like to unjam my weight..
That worked for me...

An other tip : take a pic of you when you were thinner and keep it close to you.. When you feel discouraged, look at it and imagine how you will again be very soon!

Take care

Thanks Heidi, m.c. and Wedelia --

m.c. and Heidi, I'm not sure what it is with the muscle/fat ratio and lack of scale loss when exercising regularly, especially weight lifting. It may be a need for more calories, but I tried adding more and it didn't seem to make any difference. The only thing that really worked to lower it at that time was to eat extremely low carb, high protien/high fat (like Kimkins Diet). Going into ketosis worked for me, but I couldn't do it for long because of carbs needed for energy and strength when lifting weights, etc.

I'll be out of town and away from the internet for two weeks starting early tomorrow morning.

Best to all!!!
