First time I ever did it I could not finish my bowl of oatmeal. Before SLD I had never, not ever, been able to not finish anything.

exercise and omega-3s
« on: June 26, 2008, 07:28:31 am »

Like a lot of formerly athletic people, I've tried in the past to get on an exercise program only to burn out after a couple days of overdoing it.  Most recently I found even trying to get in a vigorous walk at lunchtime would result in me being very sore the next day.  Since finding this site I've started taking fish oil and flaxseed oil for their omega-3s.  I've been able to successfully go on walks every day since I started the diet except sunday.  The strange thing is a huge reduction in sore muscles even though I would say I've been pushing myself pretty hard on my lunchtime walks.  I am attributing this to my omega-3 consumption, especially after reading about the MMA fighter who noticed a similar thing.

Have other people seen a decrease in sore muscles or improved recovery time after starting an omega-3 regimen?

I'm surprised you didn't get an answer on this. I believe I saw other people posting in the past saying that they had had improved recovery after starting omega-3, though I think they were talking about sports injuries, so yes you're not alone.

There's posts about this on Seth's blog: http://www.blog.sethroberts.net/category/nutrition/omega-3/

I've had this but I was attributing it to SLD in general.

Since you're interested in the Omega-3 topic, you might find this book interesting:  The Queen of Fats by Susan Allport.  It has influenced me to attempt to consume  Omega-3s with every meal.  And sometime I'd like to calculate my Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio to see if it's near what they describe as optimal.

I think one of the reasons that I dug into this book is because I'm in the midst of the SLD experimentation period, that time when each person struggles to find the 'hack' which works for him/her.  It seems to me that the experimentation period makes me want to pay more attention, both to what my own body is saying, and what others are saying, whether they be the experts (or fellow experimenters) on this forum, or the Taubes and Allports of the popular science press.
