I do however, still eat more of the sweet stuff than is conducive to fat loss. What has happened in the last 5 days is that I find it no trouble whatsoever to abstain from eating these foods. I can walk past them in the supermarket without batting an eyelid. I also love to bake and I made salted caramel shortbread for my work colleagues this week and whereas previously I would have had 2 or 3 with my cup of tea, plus more the next day, I only had one on the first day and really didn't fancy it the next. What can I say - unprecedented and unbelievable! -- BettieCA57

When you're working out, but the scales are "stuck"

You Really Do Change from the Inside Out

There is a good article: You Really Do Change from the Inside Out, written by John P. Hussman, Ph.D. at his hussman.com website which talks about the changes our bodies go through when we incorporate a weight training/cardio/reduced calorie-high nutrition routine. It addresses why we often don't see visible changes right away, especially on the scale, or in the visibly fatty areas, when all along we've been eating clean and nutritiously, while working out consistently week after week. This has happened to me over the past 7 months since starting and doing daily weight training and cardio at the gym on March 1, to my astonishment that I suddenly wasn't losing more scale weight or inches -- and this continued over a long period of time, although the muscle has been developing very nicely (albeit the hard muscle is mostly still under fat that I'd not expected to find remaining after all this time). There is a brief paragraph at the end on a possibility as to why our blubbery areas seem to turn to Jello just before a weight reduction. The Jello-effect is something mentioned often by SLDers just before a "whoosh" downward on the scale. At the Body-for-Life tracker site, one member put it this way:"...it happens when you start to lose fat around your organs, and in your muscles (visceral fat). Your skin is getting looser because that fat just under the skin has more move to jiggle around. It is a good sign, really, and will probably get a little worse before is gets better."

The T-Tapp people are familiar with this too. They call it the "fat shift".

Incidentally, I'm working out, eating excellent food in sensible quantities; I'm getting measurably smaller everywhere, but have only dropped a pound in the last two months. Not worried about it at all.  :)

Yay, ani! You are persistant and confident. That will get you there.
On the fat shift, per Hussman's article, I'm sure I have had plenty of "marbling" in the muscle, visceral fat on the organs to burn off first from some very sedentary years.

I love to see positive people!  :D It's great that you're keeping the whole fitness/health picture in clear view, while working on the weight reduction. I truly believe this is the best way to go!
