Hey y'all! Yesterday was my first day on the SLD, and I've already lost 2lbs overnight! I'm sure it's water weight, but I'm alright with that! I'm amazed that it's already working for me; yesterday, my insane cravings were curbed, I only ate when I was hungry, and I ate much more slowly. This morning, I had half a whole wheat bagel and a tablespoon of fat-free cream cheese, and I was STUFFED! Normally, I can scarf an entire bagel with lots of cream cheese and still be ready for something else.
I have 40 pounds to lose,* so I'm taking 3T of canola oil in the morning with a little bit of sugar and some water, plugging my nose while I drink it. No tummy problems! I'm seriously amazed at how this has helped my cravings AND appetite!
*Give or take - if I hit 30 and I'm scrawny, I'll stop there, but if I hit 40 and have another 5 to go, I'll keep going.

Contrats and good luck. One word of advice...canola oil is not the healthiest thing to be drinking. You might want to consider trying extra-light olive oil (or ELOO as we here in Shangri-La call it)

Well, I have a giant bottle of canola at home and it was 4.99 as opposed to the small bottle of ELOO for 11.99... gosh darn NYC prices!

Actually, I have a bottle of organic sunflower oil as well. Which one do y'all think is better for now?

The problem with sunflower oil is that it is really high in omega 6 and not good for your omega 3 balance. So I wouldn't use it long term. When you change oils it can set you back, so do it gradually by mixing the two together.

Amen to that. If you switch oils, do it slowly and by blending in your new oil a little more each day.

Cmsorra, it's because the core concept of the diet involves ingesting a calorie payload that is dissociated from taste, such as can be done with near-tasteless extra light olive oil. Extra virgin olive oil is meant to be tasty -- which is why it's a premium product -- so it runs counter to the whole idea of how the diet works.
I gather from your question that you probably haven't yet had the opportunity to learn the basic premise of how SLD works. It's not a matter of drinking oil any old how or putting it on your salad or something. From the local time in your profile, I'd say you're probably in the western United States or Canada. Could I suggest a visit to your bookstore to get hold of a copy of the book first? It's an inexpensive, easy-to-follow read, it's not an epic War and Peace read, and Seth explains in clear, non-technical language the psychology of how it works. For success wiith this diet, more than with most others, you need to understand how it works, rather than just following a prescribed procedure.

You're so right Tandoori. The diet sounds kind of crazy if you don't understand .. but once you understand, it's so easy to keep on track with the diet!

If you are not used to it a "diet" that is not about "eating healthy" is hard to wrap your head around. It makes more sense to me in a weird way if I think about my flavorless calories as a drug that has a biochemical effect on my brain. Which is kind of silly, but it helps keep me on track.

That is a perfect way to think about it.
