I'm on day 5. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THIS WORKS!!!! I told my sister about it and while she scoffed at first she's on Day 2 and as ecstatic as I am. My appetite is a fraction of what it used to be and I no longer have trouble drinking the oil (in fact, I look forward to it because I know what it's going to do for me).  I'm totally confident that I'm going to be able to lose the 20 lbs of baby weight.  I'm telling you, I could cry. -- Katy

Yeah -I have to say that unless I have a serious plateau, I'm out of the fast 5 club for now. I enjoy eating way too much and SLD has set me free, allowed me to enjoy my food more than ever while losing weight. I don't want to tamper with that at this point. Seth remains my one and only for now LOL!  Laughing / Yes- I am happily married and just joking. I used to say that if Dr. Atkins was still alive I'd give up my life and become his disciple. You know, with weight and weight loss we are all so passionate about losing it, when we find something that works we commit to it. At least I do.

I'll never leave you Seth (unless something better comes along, which I doubt it will)  Wink

Interesting idea.  I usually get dizzy if I go that long without eating, but I bet it would help to get in some long stretches anyway, since I get hungry after I start eating.  It is amusing, how diet philosophy runs on all sides of this.  Eat late, don't eat late;  skip meals, don't skip meals.  I may not get benefit without the full fasting time, but I'm thinking it would be better to get there with lowcal cappuccino than with a late lunch.  Cappuccino is 50 calories as I make it, and it doesn't usually make me hungrier.  I also wonder if oil would be acceptable, since most oils have a GI of zero.

Well i will be sticking to the approx 1.pm lunch cos DH will be home at that time over the weekend and i don't want him to notice.   Smile  but during the week i will push the window a bit further away.  its funny but altho i (so far) feel hunger pangs on and off  i could deal with that.  its the headaches that are so hard to deal with.  i normally get migraine so it can be quite severe...i just hope and pray that they will settle down and go away cos that is really a stumbling block for me.  i did eat a big supper at 9pm hopefully that will help.  the previous 2 days i had eaten a big lunch (well i was HUNGRY Very Happy) and then just some fruit later.
its funny really.  i find it much easier psychologically to NOT eat rather than eat a little - it must be that limbic hunger thing .....

Absolutely! (although I don't think it's just psychological)

Yes...My TOM came this morning and I stalled on F5 and Shangri-La for about 3 days before TOM. I am on 4 to 9 or 5 to 10..whatever does better for me.  Wink I am down to my lowest ever right now and want to go for about 5 or 8 more pounds after TOM. I also noticed on F5 that my gain didn't go up but about 1/2 lb this time.  Laughing

Of course I had to go to the doc on another issue yesterday and she frowned on F5 like most of them do and said it was not healthy to go all day without eating. I had all bloodwork done so I am curious to see what all my levels are.  Cool

Everyone have a great weekend!! HUGS

If the medical people actually know it all, how come we have an epidemic of obesity? Listen to your body, it knows what is right for you better than they do.

i'm only down to 2pm so far.  but the headaches are only very mild when i get them which is not every day.  i do tend to b e very hungry at 2pm and eat a good meal then just drnks till 9-ish when i have some fruit.
i will know on sunday if despite the tom there has been any change.  i will persist with this for a while longer cos it is not too difficult to do.
does the sleep induced fat loss occur even after an afternoon nap??

Yet another experiment to try! I have been on a plateau for at least a month but probably more, and lost my initial 6 pounds by starting (again!) the diet plan Change One. In this book, and in lots of others, I find that the "experts" insist on you starting the day with breakfast even if you aren't hungry. So I have been dutifully downing my oatmeal and protein source, etc. for the last couple of months without being hungry for breakfast AT ALL. Found good appetite suppression on SW, but not on the ELOO.

Based on this e-book, my new experiment is to have my usual morning cup of coffee (white, sweet), and no one is going to take that away from me! If I am hungry, I will eat, but so far the hunger doesn't start until 1-2 pm. I do drink my first liter of SW (8 teaspoons sugar in 1 liter, not too sweet) after about 1-2 hours post-coffee, and keep sipping it as long as I can drag it out. If I start to get hungry after 1, I am trying the second liter of SW. All the SW amounts have not changed since landing on what gives me AS the best. No headaches or grouchiness, unlike when I used to try just plain water fasting in my younger days.

Some findings: if you don't smell or see food, it is easier to not start eating. Hard to do, if you work in an office where people are eating all day long, its very hard to suppress the actual drive for food. Commercials on TV; its all about food! Also, don't start up the crock-pot if you are working at home all day and plan to try the fasting.

I guess the bottom line is learning that if you are really, for sure, 100% not hungry - DON'T eat. Why is this so hard to talk the stomach into!? Cheers, >:Katmom:<

I've been lucky, I've cooked some absolutely delicious stuff up for the family whilst being on the master cleanse. Anything I particularly wanted to try went into the freezer for me to have at a later stage. I even avoided tasting anything.

After reading some of the earlier posts in this thread, I did about a week of mostly fast-5, having my first food around 4 pm. It seemed fine; I didn't miss a thing, and I lost a pound. (I guess I should update my ticker and post to my thread sometime.) Last week I had some work/social obligations and so wasn't as consistent about it.

In the meantime my car gave up the ghost. I spent the weekend out on my bike in traffic, car-shopping. I'm strong, but I'm not specifically adapted to all-day biking, and it was pretty tiring. By Sunday night I was utterly bushed. (I think I found the right car, though; I'll know more in a day or two.)

This morning I woke up really wanting breakfast, so I had some, and then half a muffin when I got into work -- but I don't know how the rest of the day or the rest of the week will pan out.

I think a little fast-5 experience is making me even better at listening to my body and figuring out when I'm really hungry and when I'm not.

I have been one of those folks for whom classic SLD worked fantastically, then stopped. I regained the weight and when trying to lose it again couldn't manage as good results as the first time I tried SLD.

Hi,
Do you mean you "stopped" doing SLD or that SLD "stopped" working even tho you kept doing the same routine?
Thanks,
Gina

The effect greatly diminished (quit?) after I had lost about 18 pounds very fast. Likely my weight and set point had caught up. After that I had a one-month vacation at my parent's house in the States and gained the weight back very quickly, without even trying.  Confused Ever since I've been trying to recapture that loss, but not steadily using SLD, so you shouldn't judge by my results.

I am so glad you started this thread.  I have added fast-5 to my SLD experience and it has been just what I needed.  I love the increased energy I feel and the freedom from not having to think about food for 19 hours of the day.  My husband has joined me with Fast-5 but not SLD.  We have been doing it for about 3-1/2 weeks now, fast-5 that is.  SLD I started in April.  I usually break my fast between 2-3pm with 2tbsp. of oil, right now coconut oil and flax seed oil mix.
SLD and even the beginning of fast-5 has been a roller coaster for me, down pounds, up pounds but I have a hard time with "eat all you want, of want you want until you are full" thinking.  Some part of me takes over and says "lets see how much they mean by that".  I only had about 10lbs to lose to normal BMI, now thanks to fast-5 and SLD only about 7, through 2 vacation weekends too.  My mind can handle the freedom of choice for food and amounts in the 5 hour window, really only 4 with the oil and the oil, keeps the portions smaller.  I can really see myself staying with fast-5 for life as well as  SLD, now that I have timing and amount of the oil somewhat regulated for myself.
