I've lost 85 lbs. and I have 25 lbs. to go and I just. Can't. Quite. Process that idea. I'm at a new job where no one knows that I used to be incredibly heavy and there's even a really cute fellow faculty member who seems to like me.  He smiles at me.  A lot.  It's nice.  Everything is so . . . fantastic.  -- Del

I'm "on SLD" kind of like on WW or Jenny Craig.

I like 'SLiDers'.

Easy to remember, an (albeit weak) acronym, and refers to the oil, which is cute.

We're not doing a diet.  I have never felt so un-diety.

I agree, Denise.  It seems silly to say "I'm on the Shangri La Diet" because I'm not dieting.  I'm just eating like a normal person.  And it's not like I'm going to reach my goal weight and go off my "diet."

I'm having a tablespoon of olive oil for breakfast. That's all. Everything else, I'm making up as I go along.

That's kind of fun.

Q: "How did you lose the weight?"
A:"Well, I'm in this unofficial study for a professor at UC Berkeley.

Except telling them to buy the book after that kinda flops.  But I could sell it.

Or alternatively:

Q: "How did you lose the weight?"
A: I just followed what the rat studies told me.

It would be even harder to get them to buy the book after that. :D

I've been pondering this moniker prolem for a while too, with no big conclusions yet.

"Shangers"/"Shanging" is nice. A little vulgar in an Autin Powerish way: probably why I like it, but I guess that's likely a limitation with more "normal" people.

I also thought of Shangri-Lads and Shangri-Lassies: very cute and inoffensive, but doesn't sound so good off the tongue as it looks in print, and annoying to have to use two genders. Could be cute visually though: could use male/female leprechauns chugging oil and grinning. Or something better, I'm sure.

Just describing us rather than the method, I coined "shrinking fatties" in another post. ("I'm one of the shrinking fatties.") I was actually thinking of the term for the large planets in our solar system: "gas giants". :) I think working around that planetary idea has potential, but how to work in the concepts of getting smaller and fat rather than gas, I haven't hit yet. Not better than "shrinking fatties", at least. Maybe I could do up a .gif of that, though and put it in the entertainment section... That would be a fun distraction from the tasks I should be doing. :) Or nmaybe someone else would like to make some .gifs?

Keep the moniker pondering coming!

Cheers,
Ann H

Another nice slogan is something like:

Fat Free

I'm Fat Free

I'm / Fat Free in Shangri-La

This might sound crazy at first, since clearly most of us still be fat, but it's the same definition of "free" as in opensource software's use of "free" : freedom.

Although I'm still a good 30 pounds over weight (20 off) I really do feel freed from fat: no more fear, and I know how to get the rest off. (It'll just take time and some doing.)

Cheers,

Hi everyone, I'm new here, but OMG - I love the "Tripping on SLD". Too funny.

But what we're doing is like hacking into the brain. So maybe we could just say we're "Hacking"? Boy that doesn't sound very fun. Not as fun as tripping on SLD!

A hearty THANKS to all of you. Even though I haven't posted until now, I've been lurking and you don't know how much you've already helped me.
