Is any aftertaste allowed with noseclipping?
« on: May 30, 2007, 11:32:01 AM »

Hi All,

I just started the diet yesterday with flaxseed and walnut oil.  I clipped my nose for the flaxseed and it worked as far as eliminating most of the flavor but for maybe a second or two I did experience some taste.  What is the most effective way to nose clip so that I don't experience any taste at all?  Even waiting a few minutes and rinsing with water before removing the clips didn't expunge all taste from my mouth. This is gross, but a small belch after the fact also brought the oil taste back.  Do these split second tastes sabotage my efforts?

Any advice is appreciated!

Our best guess is, it doesn't kill the effect, but it may diminish it. Safer to try to eliminate flavor completely.

A sugarwater chaser or saltwater rinse is sometimes used to clear flavor. You can wear swimmers' noseclips for a while. It's uncomfortable at first, but I now forget I'm wearing them, if I'm not careful. If you feel a burp coming on, 'mentally' close your nose for a sec. Sometimes, though, a little flavor gets through to me even now. Over the long haul, it still works.

Good luck, Nell, and welcome!

Thanks!  The walnut oil is a breeze but I would like to continue with the flaxseed oil purely for the Omega 3 benefits.  I will just have to condition myself better.

I do flax and walnut oils. I put on noseclips first thing in the morning; I mix the oils together in water, drink them, rinse with salt water, and wipe my mouth. Only then do the noseclips come off.
