What if I'm pregnant?
« on: May 29, 2007, 08:19:32 pm »

Hey there  :D

I am a 36 year old girl living in Western Canada. I just finished reading the book, which was quite wonderful, and such a great darn read. I don't mind saying that I am happy to believe in the too-good-to-be-true! Lots of the cool things in my life have fallen under that category. My heaviest was 220 pounds, about 7 years ago. I lost 40 pounds when I became a single mom, prolly due to the physical demands of my job, etc. I was stuck at 180-190 for years, until I finally got brave and went to Herbal Magic. Well, the cost of that was unreal, but I call it money well spent, as it taught me about portions and eating habits and a lot more about nutrition. I did quit because it was way too expensive (over $1000 to sign up and about $450 a month thereafter for supplements - Wow!!) I have maintained the weight of 150 that I reached while there, oh, fluctuating up and down 10 pounds, due to a few old habits sneaking back. These last 23 pounds are HARD to drop. Maybe it's a mentality, I have been fat since I was about 8. I AM going to do the SLD, but now...

I think I Might be pregnant!!!
 I know, I know .. get a test, right? Well .. of course ...

But I would really like to know if anyone has input on being on SLD while pregnant. I recall with my 2nd pregnancy, my Dr. said he would like to see me NOT gain any weight while pregnant (I was about 190 at the time of finding out I was having my 2nd) Anyone ever hear of that, not gaining while preggers?  Well, we shall see what the census says. But at my weight, of 150 (I am 5'4 1/2 ") and I am nearly 37 years old. Is it possible to have a baby at my age and still stay sane?  :? my kids are 8 and 10. I hope someone can help!

 Cheers

Here's a   link to a thread of someone who started SLD when PG:  http://boards.sethroberts.net/index.php?topic=4657.0

She and another person are breastfeeding now, FYI.

I don't remember if anyone else has stayed on SLD during pregnancy.  You should search "pregnancy" and you'll find plenty of links to people talking about post-pregnancy weight loss, etc.  I'm sure you know about getting your nutrients, protein, calcium, etc.  That would be the main concern, I think.  Welcome, and good luck.

Congrats if you're pregnant! That's great news. I have been wondering a lot about SLD and pregnancy. I feel like if I had the tools that Seth Roberts presents in his book that I would've been a lot better off. The psychological 'I need to eat more' was always there with me. I shot from 152 to 200 pounds both of my pregnancies.

As far as oils, I know after my pregnancies, essential oils and flax seed was the only way I got over my post pregnancy hormones. I was pretty PPD.

Do you have an open minded doc? I would ask them. I'd be curious to see what they think. Of course the oil can't hurt, and if you're getting enough supplements (that would be my only concern) and enough caloric intake, then I personally (not a doctor opinion and only my opinion disclaimer here) would certainly try to use it as a method to keep from overeating along with Calorie Free Flavors between and with meals. Of course I would use Omega 3's nose clipped if I was pregnant. I think that would actually be beneficial for the baby.

I'm a firm believer in 'life begins in the womb'. Dr. Peter Nathanielz has great books on the subject with studies and all. It's a great pregnancy read / and I'd be curious to know the effects of the oil on the baby. That of course would take years of studies. But it's so interesting.

I think we're going to find, years down the line that doing SLD is hugely beneficial on all fronts. I think we'll all be quite surprised on the numerous benefits this is providing / and thankful we've gotten our hands on such a wonderful tool.

I'm not sure about using SLD while pregnant, but do look into supplementing with fish oil.  DHA, one of the omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil is important for fetal development.  Here's some info:  http://www.softecare.com/Ingredients/omega-3_fetal_development.cfm

Wow, thank you SO much for the replies!!

Update: Aunt Flo visited me this morning, and I have that kind of jubilant/disappointed mix of feelings  I'm sure it's all the stress I have been going through at work, put me off my cycle.

Now, I swallowed my first 2 TBS of Walnut Oil last night, it wasn't as bad as I had anticipated. A littel gaggy because of the 'thickness' of it, but I chased it down with some water. I felt some moderate tummyache about an hour later, but nothing I can't handle. Today, boy, I only felt a little hungry at lunch, and when I ate my wrap I was finished, and didn't wish for more, even though I usually eat veggies with it too. Maybe that's not anything, but tonight, what a difference! I did not feel all desperately hungry like I usually do. 8PM is coming fast, that's usually when my snackies come on, especially when I am at that time of the month, and stressed, and overtired. IS it possible that this is working this quickly, or is this all in my head? If it is working, WOW and I cannot wait to see what it's like in a few weeks!!

 A curiosity ...

I know it's not available, but in the future would a gelatin capsule full of ELOO swallowed (Much the same as an Omega 3-6-9 capsule or a Vitamin E capsule)

DO you think this would work the same as swallowing spoonfuls?

If so ... what a revolution for the Western world .. I imagine there are people who have given up because they maybe cannot take the oil swallowing.

 Any thoughts?

 Cheers,

I find it easier to take the oil by floating it on a bit of cold water and tossing it towards the back of the throat.  I don't get any greasy feel or taste.  As far as capsules go - you might try flaxseed oil capsules.  I bought some at Costco that have 15 calories each, so you have to take quite a few, 8 to be exact, to equal a tablespoon's worth of calories.  It is a more portable solution,  but also more expensive.  I do highly recommend a fish oil supplement, it has so many benefits - from cardiovascular to mood improvement.
I know how you feel about your mixed feelings about not being pregnant.  I had a dream the other night that I was pregnant.  At my age - almost 50 - it may be possible, but not very likely.  Anyway, when I woke up I felt kind of sad that it wasn't real.  I really loved having babies, now my youngest is 18 and about to go off to college. :(
