The best thing that has happened is that I no longer get SO hungry that I feel like I am starving and have to eat a cheeseburger right away or suffer a horrible death. Tha's what being hungry has felt like for the last three years. Now when I get hungry it feels a lot more normal and it never involves McDonalds. -- peazazz

SLD and cooking
« on: February 19, 2007, 06:10:05 am »

I have always enjoyed cooking, even after a busy day, as it provides an opportunity to unwind.  But since going on SLD, I find that I don't plan ahead as well.  I suppose that since I'm not thinking about food as much, I'm not thinking ahead to the next meal, and so when it is time to eat I find myself rummaging through the fridge and cabinets, trying to decide what sounds good - and doing a fair amount of nibbling in the process.  My grocery shopping has become more willy-nilly as well, rather than focused toward specific recipes.  My husband is not on SLD and enjoys my cooking, so I have more or less stayed with our 3-meal-per-day regimen, and I simply eat less than I did before.

Has anyone else had this experience?  How do you decide what to cook when nothing sounds good?  Do you have favorites/standbys you come back to over and over?

Hi Terriv

I guess that my AS might not be as strong as yours. I still like to cook on SLD but while cooking I don't taste my cooking as much as before otherwise I wouldn't eat during the meal. Knowing that I won't eat much at meal, I really enjoy to plan in advance what will be next in my body. I eat my three meal a day but the dinner is the one that I really plan. Hope that you will still enjoy cooking if you did so in the pass...

I stopped cooking for months at the beginning. My main meal came at lunchtime, which I ate at work.

It made me sad, frankly. I wasn't a very accomplished cook, but I enjoyed doing it. Eventually, my complete indifference to food disappeared and I began to enjoy things I hadn't eaten in years...raw fruits, mostly. Also, I've learned to make my own sushi!

I'm not losing weight as quickly, but I'm having more fun  :)
