The other great benefit I've seen [from SLD], the thing that makes it worth chugging my mix of oil and water twice a day in and of itself, is the change I've felt in my attitude toward myself. I no longer feel disordered and tortured and ashamed. I no longer feel that I'm daily failing at something that so many people seem to find so easy and effortless. Now this thing I've fought with my whole life has become so much easier, so very nearly effortless for me as well. It turns out it wasn't a fundamental failure of my essential being after all. I found out about SLD by chance.  I'm a member of another discussion board -- one with a primary topic unrelated to dieting or health issues -- and, in a thread in the health and fitness forum on that board, I happened to see a mention of SLD by a poster who also posts on this board.

I was searching the catalog for a different diet book at the public library, I saw the title of Shangri-la come up on the computer screen bu it was not yet purchased by the library. I went striaght to the book store, found it and read the whole book right in the store, then purchased it.

Hasn't there been another thread on that before ? Anyway, I read your interview with Charles Platkin in the newsletter he sends.

Doing a search for something else, certain nutritional supplements, probably. I saw the book on eBay.

Being curious, and trying seriously to lose weight, I looked it up on the internet. I had just started a "fat fast" ketogenic (KD, 5 day) diet to kick off a calorie reduction, and thought that the Shangri-La Diet might just be the help I needed to maintain the current bit of weight loss, plus what I knew I'd lose from doing short term KD, and then continue on SLD to see if it works. I ordered the book from a bookseller on eBay. I received it Friday and read it yesterday -- already having practicing SLD for 1 week, so far.

My brother (a securities broker) thrust Freakonomics upon me so he would have someone with whom to dissect it.  I was reading all the extras in the back, noticed mention of this and thus the research began!
