For the first time in memory a diet is working. Without SLD my body would kick into starvation mode. -- Numpty01

Hi I'm new here :)
« on: August 29, 2006, 10:14:37 pm »

Hi everyone,

Just finished reading the book and started with one tablespoon of ELOO and am sipping on one tablespoon of warm SW now - I have a question too

My doctor just started me on fish oil tablets - the prescription kind - today - I take 4 900 mg capsules a day - I noticed that I did get a fishy repeat of the pill about 1/2 hour after I took it - I could taste some fish - but it wasn't full-blown heartburn - anyhow, would the fish capsules be considered a flavorless oil even with the repeat?  and if so, can I take them right after a meal or should I still wait?  (that was 2 questions wasn't it? )

Thanks!

Yes, you can use fish oil for SLD. If you want to make that part of your SLD oil, then you shouldn't take them right after a meal. You should observe the 1 hour on either side. You could take them with your ELOO if you wanted. Four caps is a small quantity per SLD standards, though. Depending on how much you want to lose.

As for the repeat...it's probably okay. Nobody really knows how much a flavorful burp or a good noseful of fragrance is worth, so the working plan is to try to avoid such things, but not get too wadded up when they happen.

I take a tablespoon of salmon oil. Currently, I make it part of my SLD regimen. But I've also taken it with meals, not as part of SLD, for the benefits.

Welcome to the forums. I didn't know there was such a thing as prescription fish oil! What was it prescribed for, if you don't mind saying?

hi there and thanks for the answer :)

The prescription fish oil is called Omacor - it was prescribed by my endocrinologist as I see him for a few ongoing things - he prescribed this to help lower my triglycerides - he wants to see if this will do it instead of going right to a synthetic pill - Omacor is free of any extraneous matter like mercury and so far it doesn't upset my tummy like over the counter fish oil tabs did.

Best,

Hmm, hope my tri's go down too - a little elevated at 245 a year ago - runs in the family.  Been eating a lot more fish and taking fish oil too ( 1 or 2 capsules a day).

There are 1000 milligrams in a gram so 900 milligrams is a bit less than a gram.  A gram of fat has about 9 Calories.  So each of your fish oil capsules is about 8 Calories which isn't much.  There are 40 Calories in a measuring teaspoon of oil and 120 Calories in a measuring tablespoon of oil.

I'd take the fish oil with meals.  There aren't enough calories to be helping with the SLD effect of flavorless calories and then you wouldn't need to be concerned whether the aftertaste might cause a problem.

Sixties - thank you so much for breaking that down for me!!  OK now I know for future use not to consider the fish oil SLD friendly.

Thanks again!
