As you can tell, I am SOOOO excited!
May 8/06 - Day 8 on the Shangri-La Diet and I've finally lost. 6 pounds.  Took me eight days, but it's finally happening.

I began this method on May 1/06 weighing just shy of 230 lbs.
Here is my story, to date.

May 1, 2006

A few days ago, when I weighed myself first thing in the morning, I found that once again, my weight had increased.  I’m now almost 230 lbs.  A month ago I was about  224.  Scared does not describe it.
I was asleep on the couch last night when I woke up to hear Caroline and Evan (CBC Sunday evening report) discussing the Shangri-La Diet.  I didn’t catch all of what they’d said, but saw/heard part of an interviews with Seth Roberts and another one with a researcher (I think) who is planning to look into the diet to see if it really does have the benefits that Roberts claims.  It was enough to send me to search the internet.

Breakfast this morning consisted of 2 bowls of Cheerios and a banana, a couple cups of coffee with sugar and whitener.  That was around 9.  I missed lunch because of researching on the web.  At 1:33, I’d read enough and decided to try my own experience with this diet.
The above information is what I’m going on.  I’ve called the library to see if they can get the book in for me.  In the meantime, I have what I need to get started.

Uck!  I thought the sugar water and oil were supposed to be flavorless!  I used 3 tablespoons of sugar to a 500ml bottle of water (poured in with a funnel and shaken) and find it is super sweet.  I drank a third of it down before remembering that it’s supposed to be taken slowly.  I was starting to feel fairly hungry. I now also have a bit of a headache, feel it behind the eyes, so maybe it’s from too much web searching.

Anyways.  Feel very much like a nap but don’t suppose I will.  Dishes to do and supper to make.  Maybe I’ll make that chicken soup up.  That would be a good, nutritious, lower calorie meal.  You’re not supposed to have to watch calories on this, but, if I can help things along. . .   At the moment, I can feel my hunger start to lessen.  Still half a bottle to go.  Have to get myself some extra-light Olive oil and try it too.  I do have Canola, so maybe I’ll try that later.

tomato and cheese sandwich w/ marg and miracle  whip
glass  2% milk
pickles

1 glass of Amarula on ice

6:30 PM
3 BBQ’d  Smokies
1 ½ baked potato /w cottage cheese, bacon bits, onion and cheddar
corn
1 ½ Lg  glasses 2 % milk
1 large glass of Amarula, after supper
(I felt very hungry at suppertime, the smokies tasted sooo good, I had to have another, and more potato with trims and corn.   I ended up leaving half the potato and corn.  I was full and satisfied.  Had glass of Amarula, (very tired and fell asleep before I drank half, finished it later) Didn’t feel the need to snack later,at all after that.  Had a cup of tea.  Went to bed at midnight

May 2, 06

7:00 A - 8:15 AM
2 -  500 ml bottles w/ 2 TBSP sugar, each
(It’s 8:23 am and I feel hungry and have since getting up.  Keep hoping the appetite suppressing part will kick in soon.  Maybe it is a bit.  Have to wait until 9:15 to eat.  Am having a Gano coffee. (Maybe I shouldn’t, yet) hmmmmm.  Have to check that  out.

Am a lot less hungry.
Am going to try Dr. Phil’s diet.  I did so well on it last time.  At least, initially.

finally eating - feel a little light headed, slightly off-balance
3/4 C. Just Right cereal
1 C. 2% milk
1 boiled egg
1 fruit
coffee
I find I need to pace my eating and sugar-water times better.  I’m just now eating my egg and still have to have a fruit, and I’m running into lunch time. (11:55) and I haven’t had the second sugar water, yet.  Today, I’m going to forego the between breakfast and lunchtime sugar water and just eat lunch, on time.  Hopefully finish the day on schedule.

NOON
500 ml water
GANO coffee
1 can Salmon w/ 2 tsp. Miracle Whip, S&P, chopped lettuce
½ apple (couldn’t eat all of it)

2:45 PM
Ganno coffee

2 TBSP Canola oil
I’m starting to feel a little hungry.  Took the oil, 2x1 TBSP, poured it down the back of the throat.  GROSSSSS!!!!!
Took 2 to see how it affected my appetite.  Am having homemade chicken soup for supper.
My energy levels are not great. 

Talked to both sister and sister-in-law about the Shangri-La Diet.  Both are TOTALLY closed to the concept.  Brother,sister-in-law and I are starting diets at the same time.  Theirs, supposed to lose between 10-17 lbs. In one week, guaranteed. It’s a diet used by heart patients to lose weight quickly so they can have surgery.  I’m going to take a look at it. . .but I think I’ll just carry on trying to just lose my appetite, and eat healthy.

One thing I have noticed, already, is that I am not obsessing about food.  Always been a huge problem before.  Now, I’m only trying to think of something that will be “healthy”, not how much, or what I can’t have.  I am not overly concerned how many calories I eat, just as long as I eat healthy, and stop when I’m satisfied, trying to stop just before being FULL.

Major dizzy spell happening - downed a glass of sugar water soon as I felt it come on.  I hope it passes.  It feels like it might.  I’m just going to sit still for a min with my eyes closed. I need to go get my dishes done.
It took about 45 min. to pass.  Still slightly off balance an hour later. Wasn’t able to carry on with chores, at all.  Had to stay sitting the whole time.

May 3/06

gads, it’s already the 3rd!!!
No weight change.  If anything it’s up.
My face is looking better.  Not nearly so red and the rash is receding. 
(I have red splotches, dry, flaking patches and have had different people tell me it's probably a skin condition called Rosacea.  I've never had it diagnosed or treated.  Keep thinking I should as it just gets worse and worse, but never have.)

I had energy that I don’t normally have.   I was tired, but I was able to finish what I was trying to do.  Also, seemed to be clearer thinking.  My ability to accomplish things is impressive.  Not, here, there and all over the place, disorganized.  I feel very organized.
I was soooo sore when I went to bed.  My back and sides were really stiff and achy, I could hardly move once I was laying in bed.  Could hardly turn over I was so sore.


May 4, 06

I woke up needing to go to the bathroom, otherwise I probably wouldn’t have gotten up.  The soreness has lessened considerably, the stiffness, somewhat.  Once up, I was ready to get right into doing housework.  Tired, but full of energy.  This is a good kind of energy.  Not the hyper kind, where you feel it’s controlling you.  I just feel lots of stamina.  Hmmmmmm.   Interesting.  I wonder if it has anything to do with the oil I’ve been adding.  My face is improved more again today.  Husband  even commented, as he was leaving for work.. He told me I looked good. At first he said it was the light colored, flowery shirt I was wearing that made the difference. Then he said my face was looking a lot better.  Hmmmmm.  Bet it’s the oil.  Plus all the hydrating I’ve been doing that I don’t normally do.  Maybe the Gano coffee, too???  Haven’t had reg coffee (Taster’s Choice, instant) much since starting this.   

Weight is 232 lbs this morning.  Sure hope it’s all that water I’ve been drinking!!!  Feel like I should be weighing less, but it’s going the other way.  Hmmmmmm. . .

don’t feel as hungry this morning.  Certainly don’t want the 2nd bowl of cereal.  Still could do with something.

I got up in the middle of the night, and I noticed that my boobs seemed noticeably smaller, like they’d shrunk and were lighter in weight. 

May 5/06

weight 230 - down the  2 lbs. I gained
My face is still much improved, although not perfect.  The red patches that were dry and flaking are mostly gone.  Have mostly a faded red rash, but no dry flakes.  The cheek skin is much smoother.  It used to have dry lines, parched looking tiny ridges.  Those are smoothing out nicely.  Not nearly so dry looking and no longer forming ridges.  Just fading lines.  Whoopee.

Just these last few min.  12:36P, I’m starting to feel a bit dizzy, tired feeling.  Was really good up until now.  Sugar??  Oil??  Just tired from late night, early morning (again) or lack of food?  (doubt that’s it) Feel like I could use a nap.
Am going to have a bath.  By that time, my time will be up and I’ll have my soup.  Energy has been good this morning, although do feel tired from going and going the last few days.  Not used to it.  But. . .still going. :0 ) Two weeks before we leave to go on holiday.

Enjoyed the recital. 

Feel depressed.  Feel anxious about getting school work done.  (Taking an English course at the college.  Deadline is June  Have had many interruptions and delays.)

Feel like I’ve had a good week, eating wise.   Still haven’t lost anything, but I know my calorie intake has dropped at least by half so, it’s gotta happen sooner or later.  I’m having an easy time of it.  No more obsessing about food.  I’m loving it.  Even taking the oil, now that I’ve tried Olive oil EX- LITE is going to be a breeze.  It will help to read the book to find out exactly what the program is and what all I should be doing.   My book comes on Monday.  Yayyyyyyyyyy!!!!!
