What brands of fish oil are you folks using?
« on: August 26, 2006, 09:44:01 PM »

I'm just about out of Barlean's Cod Liver Oil ($20 USD for 8 oz.). The local store was out, and they order when they feel like it.  So I went searching and found Carlson Laboratory's Fish Oil and Cod Liver Oil on Amazon. It was a little bit more money for twice the amount of product.

It seemed like Carlson's was an OK product from my searching. Did I make the right choice? Does anyone here have any suggestions/opinions for the next time I run out? (now that's a silly question...)

I use Carlson's salmon oil. It came highly recommended...I just don't remember by whom or where. I bought a bottle of it liquid and I drink it by the tablespoon, nose clipped. Seems fine (but, then, how would I know if it weren't?).

I took my old generic fish oil capsules and feed them to the cats. I snip open the side of the capsule and drizzle it over catfood. This makes them all glossy and sassy. It will probably turn out to be a mistake, though, as I think the kitten is growing up to be an evil genius or something. (Those testicles have to GO).

Got an e-mail from Vitamin Shoppe (the shipper for the product on the Amazon Store). The oils are backordered until Sept. 19.

I now take the Nordic Naturals CLO and Nature's Bounty salmon oil in capsules (just as a supplement), but I have taken Premier Quantum Norwegian Cod Liver Oil from http://www.radiantlifecatalog.com/prod.cfm/ct/1/pid/1034 and Blue Ice Pure Cod Liver Oil http://www.greenpasture.org/products/cod_liver_oil

They both have unflavored oils. The Blue Ice has some nice flavors that are probably not suitable to the diet, but I think the unflavored one is pretty strong if I remember correctly—I would definitely use nose clips taking that. I liked Quantum because the flavor is mild, like good sushi.

I noticed while out buying batteries at my local drug store chain that Walgreen's house brand of fish oil tablets are on sale this week.  Two for one.  So about 2 and a half cent a tablet.

I love it. One thing that I was concerned about was which companies are reputable. This helps immensely!
